Mezmorra was once a land of splendor and peace, its people living in harmony with the land and each other. Surrounded by the glimmering sea of Eternal Mist, it was a relative paradise.

Then one night the sky lit up with fire like rain spreading both fear and death. The blazes spread and King Hovard, whose lineage had ruled justly for three generations, sent his best knights to combat the flames and to discover their source. And though the threat was contained, Axoth, along with the knights he led, were never seen again.

Seeing this as an opportunity, Sir Sylvan Darkhammer, a power-hungry local warlord, took advantage of the sudden loss of King Hovard’s Mercenary Knights and launched a successful coup that saw King Hovard and his young daughter captured and exiled to a remote island north of Mezmorra.

The reign of terror began. Darkhammer and his cadre of mercenaries, spies and assassins came to be known as the Obsidian Order. Their mandate was to eliminate all remaining vestiges of Hovard’s civilized society and bring what was left under the warlord’s personal command.

As Darkhammer’s henchmen moved westward from the capitol, spreading violence and chaos, a new evil emerged. Roving bands of the undead were seen kidnapping people, presumably to be taken back to their underground catacombs as a grisly meal. The undead masses clashed with the army of the Obsidian Order where vicious battles were fought.

The Undead slowed the advance of Darkhammer’s forces, buying the coastal towns of Lankenshire and Grey Cantor precious time to prepare a defense against both of the approaching hordes. With the army of the kingdom shattered, there was little the townsfolk could do, but turn to a strange and mystical hermit named Zavier. His advice was cryptic at best. He spoke of his recent discovery that had the potential to change the world and rid it of these horrid foes.

Time passed… then a sign of hope. Princess Reya managed to escape from exile with the help of the wily sea dog, Captain Annaki. Vvowing to return her father to his Kingdom, the Princess went into hiding on KinKade Island where she sought an adventurer who would be up for such a task.

Upon further reflection the Princess sought the assistance of one of the church elders, Father Obadiah. With his guidance, she began a strict regimen of prayer, sacrifice and training. She eagerly learned the ways of the Warrior, Rogue, Priest, Wizard, Thief and Purjehtii. As time passed, she built a force of adventurers that she prayed could stand up to the powerful Obsidian Order.

As the insidious dark armies grew ever nearer, Zavier invoked a protective Zygo Energy Barrier that engulfed the last two civilized villages to keep the evil at bay… but it would only last so long, he warned.

Then without any sign, Zavier disappeared.

Had he abandoned the princess and her people? Had the Obsidian Order found a way through the barrier? Zavier had to be found and the King needed to be rescued from the clutches of the Obsidian Order. Her recruits were almost ready, but could they achieve victory before it was too late…
